Shorecaster Dean Hayashi of Makawao, Maui was fishing at Olowalu on March 22, 1992 when the state record barracuda came cruising by and ate Dean’s puhi-paka (eel) bait. Dean bested the great barracuda using a Fenwick pole, 113HLW Penn Senator reel and 60-lb test Five Star line.
